4/29 WWE Extreme Rules thread

Preview on tonight's Extreme Rules show from the All-State Arena in Chicago:

*John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar in an Extreme rules match - This is the most interesting WWE PPV main event in a long time, because of the investment in Lesnar. Does he go over? Does he go over strong? Where does he go from here? How will he work? How will the crowd react? One would expect Lesnar will work heel and get cheered like a face. It would be mind-boggling if he doesn't win, but WWE likes to be unpredictable. I don't think the match will be bad, but this is not a match about quality of the match. If anything, the finish and body of the match being strongly for Lesnar is a lot more important here than it would be for any match in recent memory.

*C.M. Punk vs. Chris Jericho in a Chicago street fight for the WWE title - Since it's Punk's home city and he won the title last year at Money in the Bank, usual WWE booking would have him lose. These two should be put in the position to carry the show work wise, having a long match since it's a lock the crowd will be huge into it given Punk in Chicago. As far as the finish goes, if Jericho is staying for the long-term, he should win, either here or next month but probably here since he lost at Mania. If he's leaving, you could argue the value of him winning here and losing in a month or two to keep the program fresh. But since Lesnar is going to be the one carrying the company, I'd just as soon not bounce the title around unless it's for long-term reasons.

*Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan 2/3 falls for the world title - I expect this to be a long match to make up for their 18 second match. This is probably Bryan's best shot at the great kind of main event match that he used to be a specialist in. As far as who wins, since Alberto Del Rio is the next challenger, that would favor Sheamus. Then again, if you look at who has the momentum, Bryan shouldn't be the one moved from the top echelon just yet.

*Randy Orton vs. Kane falls count anywhere - A brawl. Hopefully this is the feud blow-off. It probably won't be. Should be fine for its spot on the show.

*Big Show vs. Cody Rhodes for IC title - The less said about Cody Rhodes and Friday's Smackdown the better. The belt means nothing when Show has it. Granted, it means nothing no matter who has it, but it can at least give Rhodes some focus and meaning as a prelim guy. I think most expect Rhodes to win based on how badly slaughtered he came out of Smackdown.

*Nikki Bella vs. Beth Phoenix for Divas title - If the company changes its original plans, Phoenix wins the title. If not, Bella doesn't lose here. Probably will be five minutes or so, and probably not very good.

*Santino Marella vs. The Miz for the U.S. title (on You tube) - To establish the Youtube concept, I'd do the title change. Marella is going to be over at his comedy prelim level with or without the title. Miz is floundering bad, although Miz as U.S. champ and Rhodes as IC champ seem like the same concept on both shows. In the big picture, it really doesn't matter and this will probably be a short match built around comedy spots.
